Crystals and Crystal Oscillators 

When an electrical current is applied to a crystal, it induces the crystal to vibrate at its natural resonant frequency. This vibration is harnessed to generate a highly stable and accurate electrical signal at a constant specified frequency. 

This frequency is then used, in conjunction with an oscillator circuit, to provide a specific output wave form. This wave form can be used for various electronic applications, typically to drive integrated circuits (ICs) in electronic devices.  

ICs rely on this constant clock signal to synchronize their operations and facilitate efficient data processing, making crystal oscillators a very important component in timing circuits for computers, GPS receivers, radar systems, and communication devices, to name a few.  

QuikXO MQF TCXO Oscillators 

Mercury’s QuikXO MQF TCXO oscillators offer a unique advantage by being built-to-order and delivered directly from Southern California within days. These temperature compensated crystal oscillators are specifically designed to meet the demands of applications requiring a frequency stability of ±1.0 PPM across an extended temperature range spanning from -40°C to +85°C. 

With low current consumption and a typical integrated phase jitter of 1.5 pS RMS, these oscillators are the ideal choice for almost every circuit. Operating seamlessly with either a +2.5 V or +3.3 V supply voltage, they offer flexibility with CMOS, PECL, or LVDS Square Wave output logics. The nominal frequency options are versatile, ranging from 10.000 MHz to 250.000 MHz with a CMOS square wave output logic and expanding up to 1,500.000 MHz (1.5 GHz) with a PECL or LVDS square wave output logic. 

For designs that require a low current consumption, the QuikXO TCXO’s are ideal with a current consumption ranging from the low 24 mA up to 34 mA with a CMOS square wave output logic, 36 mA to 52 mA with a PECL square wave output logic, and 22 mA to 36 mA with a LVDS square wave output logic.
