On July 6th, 2018 the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the Section 301 Action. This action imposed a 25% duty on items identified, as classified, under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) with a country of origin of China upon importation into the United States. Additional products were added to the list on August 23rd, 2018.

See List 1, List 2, and List 3.

Area51 Electronics continues to work toward minimizing the impact of the tariffs to our customers. The tariff only impacts products with specific HTS codes, with a listed country of origin of China, and consumed within the United States.

We will update as information becomes available. Any immediate questions not answered in the FAQ can be sent to tariffs@area51esg.com.

FAQ

What parts are impacted by the new tariffs?

Currently 818 product lines are identified by Section 301 that will include an incremental 25% tariff. These product lines are based on HTS codes. Please see List 1, List 2, and List 3 for a full list of lines effected.

Will Area51 Electronics charge the tariff to customers and are prices going to change?

Area51 Electronics has chosen to incorporate the duty into our costs, so the price we quote the customer is the final price that they pay. When customers get a quote from us they can rest assured that there will not be any surprise charges on their invoices, or subsequent later invoices requesting payment for tariffs.

What’s Area51 Electronics' strategy for mitigating the tariff impact to the customers?

Area51 Electronics works closely with our suppliers to source products that do not fall under the 25% tariff category. Our main goal in this current situation is transparency. We will work with our suppliers and provide all options to you, so you can choose the options that best suit your needs.
